The premium community is operating on an adaptation of Sphere, Michael Crichton’s 1987 novel about a team of scientists in an underwater facility who encounter a mysterious alien spacecraft.
The sequence is from showrunnner Denise Thé, who a short while ago worked as a author and govt producer of season 3 of Westworld.
Formal series description: “Sphere plunges us 1 thousand feet into the ocean, where by a group of scientists confronts the surreal, lovely, and lethal mysteries of the universe, only to find the persons closest to us could demonstrate to be the most alien.”
Sphere was designed into a 1998 motion picture starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson. In spite of its all-star cast and director Barry Levinson, the movie was a bomb at the box business as it struggled to make the book’s challenging premise into a compelling narrative. The challenges faced by the movie will presumably be even more durable for a collection to crack. But HBO properly took Westworld – which was initially viewed as a reasonably tacky (if effective) 1973 movie – and reinvented it into a powerful strike drama.
Westworld showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are also on board as government producers, together with Athena Wickham, Robert Downey Jr, Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell.
