Two “abandoned” outlets have been acquired by a neighborhood team in the hope of revitalising a Scottish town centre.

Midsteeple Quarter (MSQ) stated the deal was a “massive move ahead” in its attempts to revive the coronary heart of Dumfries.

A previous bid to buy the properties finished in irritation

as it was outbid at auction.

The sites at 113-115 and 117-119 Higher Street – which have sat empty for some time – were being purchased for an undisclosed sum, with the invest in funded by South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).

They sold last year at auction for £142,000.

MSQ supervisor Scott Mackay reported he suspected the homeowners had not completely appreciated the poor state of the structures when they acquired them.

They will now be transformed to support realise the group’s broader vision of developing much more place for “dwelling, doing the job, enterprising and creating” in the city centre.

MSQ hopes to “repopulate” the city centre by developing large-top quality and affordable housing on the upper floors of a lot of of the buildings all over the historic Midsteeple.

At avenue stage, it aims to assist a “blended and lively neighborhood overall economy”.

An ambitious masterplan hopes to “breathe new existence” into the space as a location to live and perform.

Mr Mackay stated: “It is bringing into our command – and the community’s manage – two considerable higher street properties which have been empty and not preserved for over a decade now.
