Here’s some low-key casting news on the Disney+ series Loki.
Cue the Owen Wilson “wow” meme, because the Wedding Crashers and The French Dispatch actor has joined the Marvel Studios television venture about Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief. ComicBook.com first reported the news, which Variety and Deadline subsequently confirmed. Reps for Wilson and Disney declined to comment.
Wilson’s role is still unknown, but he’s said to play a major character. Loki will track the movements of the title character from an alternate timeline, the one we saw in Avengers: Endgame escaping captivity with the Tesseract.

“You guys saw Avengers, right?” Hiddleston said during the show’s big Comic-Con reveal in 2019. “So he’s still that guy. And just about the last thing that happened to him was he got Hulk-smashed. So there’s a lot of psychological evolution that is still yet to happen. Kevin [Feige] has generally shown me what his plans are. I can’t tell you any of them, but it is one of the most exciting creative opportunities I think I’ve ever come across. This is new territory, a new world, new challenges, and I cannot wait to get started.”
Filming on Loki is currently underway. Hiddleston recently shared a video of his leap into action as prep for the production.
Other Marvel series in development for Disney+ include WandaVision (starring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany’s Vision) and Falcon and the Winter Soldier (starring Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier). These series will all be connected to the slate of forthcoming Marvel movies, which include The Eternals and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
